How to brew the perfect cup of tea depends on these three, easy steps -– the amount of loose tea used,
the steep time and the water quality & temperature.
LOOSE TEA
Typically 1 -1 ½ teaspoons of loose leaf tea per cup is a good starting point. In order to brew loose leaf tea,
you will need a device to either steep or strain the tea. Disposable tea filters, a tea strainer or a teapot with a
built-in infuser are the preferred method as tea balls and cloth filters do not give tea enough space to infuse.
STEEPTIME
Over steeping tea is a common error and results in a bitter flavor. For stronger flavored tea
increase the amount of loose tea you use.
Consider the times below, as a recommended guideline for steeping tea.
| Tea Type | Water Temp | Steep Time |
|---|---|---|
| Black Tea | 190 F - 200 F | 2-3 minutes |
| Green Tea | 170 F - 180 F | 1-2 minutes |
| Herbal Tea | 210 F | 3-6 minutes |
| Oolong Tea | 180 F - 190 F | 2-3 minutes |
| Pu-her Tea | 200 F - 210 F | Limitless |
| White Tea | 150 F - 160 F | 1-2 minutes |
| Yellow Tea | 160 F - 170 F | 1-2 minutes |
TEMPERATURE/QUALITY OF WATER
Good water is essential to a great cup of tea. Skip any chlorinated, purified, or distilled water, and just use clean,
filtered, chemical-free water. Always bring the water to a boil, then cool to the appropriate brewing temperature
before adding to your tea leaves. General preparation guidelines for MYX teas are enclosed.
